Check out this link to an excellent presentation on ADHD.
You will need to create a free account to view the video but it is well worth the time.
This is my response to it:
I found this an excellent presentation. Especially re the response to low dose mood stabilizers, and appreciate the “dimensions of personality” perspective. And info re personality questionnaire.
Given that our diagnoses are just approximations and arbitrary boundaries, and that multiple regions of the brain affect the varied functions that our diagnoses “distill” as if it’s one thing, why would we not see compensation (“maturation”) bringing those “affected” toward what we want to call normal?
That said, I wonder when we will acknowledge the option to use neuroplasticity and non invasive neurofeedback training, which —according to the most recent authoritative review — finds NF for ADHD both efficacious and specific (Khazan et Al, Evidence-based practice in Neurofeedback and biofeedback, 4th edition, 2023).I have observed the sometimes profound (and of course sometimes modest or none) impact of neurofeedback —both traditional eeg NF and, even more surprisingly, pirHEG NF, a wellness form of NF for the prefrontal cortex— on both mood regulation and on anxiety and on executive function, in the subset of my patients I have treated with neurofeedback.
It is now my string and considered opinion these modalities are excellent alternative to medications for avoiding side effects, assisting with learning and maturation, helping with lowering or eliminating medication reliance, and —obviously— reducing risk of addiction.
These modalities are especially relevant in treating bipolar disorder, migraines (amazing), and in reproductive and child and adolescent psychiatry.
