Exercise is AS GOOD AS Antidepressants in treating depression.
Psychiatrists are challenged to help motivate and facilitate communities and individuals so that exercise is more attractive an option than “a pill”. Especially given the importance of de-prescribing and potential negative effects of meds, plus the research showing that exercise has a more robust effect than antidepressants.
Pills have their place, but especially in chronic stress related conditions, improvements in exercise, and social connection and diet are KEY, and comprehensive, holistically oriented approaches are simply proven more effective than “silver bullet” medications or polypharmacy.
